About

Syd Dabady is a Haitian-American illustrator and designer from Miami, Florida. She is currently a senior pursuing a BFA in Illustration at Maryland Institute College of Art. She specializes in fabricating dreamy surreal environments, meticulous rendering, and creating a bridge between the imagined and the tangible, in an effort to encourage more wonder and play in all of our lives. When she isn’t pondering on the existence of magic, she likes to collect objects and trinkets made of materials that inspire her work like metal, glass and crystal.

Artist Statement

In my work I blend fantasy with the ordinary in an effort to highlight the moments and objects that hold magic in our daily lives. I reference the ephemeral nature of dreams to create surreal illustrations that allow for a shifted perspective in our understanding of what objects and moments can create intrigue. Using digital tools, I draw inspiration from still life photography, fantasy and science fiction media. My work blurs the boundaries between reality and the imagined to live within the mysterious narratives created when we strive to listen to the whispers of magic that surround us
